by R.W. Watkins

Wednesday night in late September
Suburban town engulfed w/ rain

Wind thru trees Deciduous
Streets flooding Cars indifferent

Headlights

An empty driveway

Modern home w/ dark closet & warm shower
Rings & vows momentarily forgotten

Bodies, naked

Restless hyperbolas

The low hum of telephone throughout, still unanswered

[1988]
